Legal Aid

We will always try in any possible way to obtain Legal Aid funding for your case, however we have to meet certain criteria in order for you to qualify. Most applications for Legal Aid are means and merits tested save for care proceedings. The Legal Aid Agency expects you to have evidence of domestic abuse for you to satisfy one set of criteria under Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment Act 2012 (LASPO). You then have to undertake a means assessment to ascertain whether Legal Aid should be granted to you in your case.

In certain circumstances such as financial cases, if legal aid is granted, if you preserve or recover any property or are awarded a lump sum as part of your settlement you may be asked to pay back your legal aid costs. This is called the statutory charge.

If Legal Aid is not available to you, we will charge you at an hourly rate based on the number of hours involved in the case at the rate stated below for each individual fee-earner.

Louise Blackwell – Chartered Legal Executive & Head of Department £225.00 plus VAT

Billie Metcalfe – Trainee Solicitors (under 4 years qualified) £200.00 plus VAT
